Room Refresh: Step 1- Setting Your Intention
We all have one, a room in our house that we aren’t thrilled with. It’s cluttered, the sofa isn’t comfortable, it’s cold or maybe you can’t put your finger on why you don’t love spending time in it but you know it’s not somewhere you want to be.
I may be in Guatemala but I remember the feeling all too well. As the season changes and you spend more time inside the home can feel stagnant and in need of a refresh.
Decorating a space is a process best broken down into a variety of steps. Over the next month I’m going to take you through the steps that will take your room from drab to fab, from cramped to amped. So look around your home. Let’s do this!
Picking the space:
What is the one room in your house you wish was different?
Have multiple rooms?
What room do you spend the most time in?
How does the room currently make you feel?
How would you like the room to make you feel?
What function does the room need to have? How will you use the space?
Look around at items you already own. Determine if there are items you want to sell or items that you love and will want to incorporate into the space. Channel Marie Kondo and ask yourself; Does this spark joy?
Set your budget. Have a number in mind of what you are able and willing to spend right now.
Think of how you will use the space so you can determine if you have furniture to fit all your needs.
Donate or throw out items you no longer have a use for.
Make a list of the large pieces that you’ll still need to purchase or function that needs to be filled. (ie. desk or storage for toys)
Don’t worry if you don’t have the budget to switch out all your big items right now. Make note of what you don’t love and why. Later we will discuss tricks for working them into the space.
Place all decorative items you love into one area of the room. (ie Books, throws, pillows, pictures plants etc. )
Next week we will dive more into the next steps but until then I want to hear from you! Take a photo of the room you want to redesign and post the photo in your Instagram Stories. ( Don’t forget to tag @casacamhi You just might hear back from me with some pointers and guidance. )
